Record Butterfly Peacock Bass By: Frank Carbone
On Feb. 9 , 2008 Stan Rosen from Cayman Islands & Alabama caught my new Record Butterfly Peacock Bass Record. 25 " with a 20 " Grith.
Stan fought this "HAWG" for 6 mins. on 12 lb. mono and a # 1 Daiichi Bleeding Hook before landing this beauty. Great Job Stan,. Stan the Man is now the one to beat.
This day started out a little slow , as Stan was getting use to fishing for Peacock Bass, and missing more then he was catching.
After a few hours he started getting the hang of thing, the day was beautiful as we continued down the canal catching fish steadily. Stan had caught 17 peacock's between 2- 3.5 lb. and then came number 18.
At around 2:20 PM I spotted this Trophy Peacock Bass about 7 ft. down in the water.
I shouted to Stan get ready Brother because your about to get the thrill of your life there is a 7-8 lb. Hawg, I thought.
Stan missed on the first try, but on his second attempt, his line started moving into the deeper water, he cried out "do I have him", I then replied," I don't know raise the tip of the rod and find out".
As soon has this monster felt the hook the fight was on. Every time he came to boat it ran again & again. I kept on thinking , please line don't break,. what a relief to put the net under him and start taking picture's.
OH! and by the way it was Stan's Birthday, what a nice present he gave himself.
The prime months are coming up for Peacock Bass fishing in South Florida so book your date's now while they are still available with "The Hawghunter', Capt. Frank Carbone.
