Tarponville Fishing Lodge

For years, fishermen have heard rumors of huge tarpon in large numbers on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, near Panama's border. Guess what? The "mother lode" has been found! After numerous trips, sportfishing experts have now developed a fishing operation in this previously unknown fishing area. Tarpon weighing over 130 lb. have been caught on both lure and fly. Twenty hook-ups in a morning have been accomplished, and tarpon over 200 lb. have been landed on a fly! Furthermore, the fishing waters are situated in a wildlife and marine reserve, which insures management and protection of the fish and habitat. There is nothing more impressive than feeling the line come tight and watching a 100+ lb. Tarpon come rocketing into the air or its tail walking across the water with your fly in its mouth! This is why we call these fish the "Silver King". Nowhere else in the world are your chances at landing a Tarpon over 100 lb. or hooking a tarpon of 200 pounds more likely than at Tarponville. The Tarpon fishery at Tarponville caters to all levels of fly fisherman from beginners to experts, form blind casting to sight casting. The Bonefish and Permit fishery we have found here in Costa Rica is truly untouched territory. The fish in this area have seen little to no fishing pressure for the past decade and we will proceed slowly in our expansion of this area. You will depart Tarponville by shuttle very early in the morning headed to meet the captain located less than 30 minutes away. You will board the captain's boat and head first to the flat for a 3 to 4 hour walking session. You can expect to see tailing bonefish and permit almost immediately as you begin your walk on the flat. You will be casting to fish in 12 inches to 3 ft. of water during this time and need a fly selection to cover both of these areas. Complete Tarponville fishing packages include accommodations in a clean and comfortable beachfront lodge located just outside the village of Manzanillo. To access the lodge you must cross a small creek and walk about 200 yards. Each room at the lodge has two beds, ceiling fans, a private bathroom, and a beachfront view of one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the Caribbean. Guests will also have access to the internet if they bring their own laptop and the lodge telephone, where they can make or receive calls using their own calling card. The rooms are located only a few yards from the edge of the water on a wonderful beach perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or just relaxing. This combination of ceiling fans and consistent ocean breezes make sleeping comfortable. The lodge is located in the middle of the Manzanillo/Gandoca Wildlife Refuge, one of the most beautiful places in the entire area. Howler monkeys, sloths, a ridiculous number of bird species, and other wildlife can all be viewed from your front porch in the mornings and evenings. All meals at the lodge will be prepared by local cooks, and the menu will include such items as snapper, local fruits and vegetables, and other local delicacies. The Lodge bar and kitchen area stocked with complimentary beer, rum, sodas, and mixers for any alcohol that you would like to purchase at the duty free store in San Jose and bring with you to the lodge. A normal fishing day will start with breakfast at 6:00 AM. You will depart for the fishing grounds by 7:00am (20-30 minute ride). Normally you will return by noon for a prepared lunch, return to fish at about 2:00 PM until dark. This schedule allows you to be on the water during the prime fishing hours.
